Caramelized Corn Flakes Recipe - Frost your own flakes!

So lately I've been obsessed with Frosting my own Corn Flakes - aka caramelizing them! It's super easy, and I'm super addicted.

When I was little my mom would caramelize plain Corn Flakes for me, and I would eat them as a dry snack or eat them with milk like normal cereal. It was my FAVORITE thing.. then I discovered Frosted Flakes - and since those were WAY sweeter, I think my mom phased out her semi-homemade frosted flakes for Tony the Tiger's.

To be honest, I totally forgot about these.. until I read about Caramel Clusters - When I read about these I got super excited thinking it was what my mom used to make! These look amazing, but not quite as simple as my momma's. So I decided to figure it out myself!

4 cups of Plain Corn Flakes
1/8 cup of sugar
1/8 cup of honey
Pinch of spices (ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon) - Optional - I used La Boite's Yemen N.10 from an old popsugar must have box

Pour sugar and honey and a few pinches of spice to a non-stick pan.
Turn the heat on high, mix it all together, and wait for it to boil! (should take less than 1 minute)

As soon as it starts boiling, start stirring. Now here is the trickyish part since I don't use a candy thermometer.. I let it boil for about a minute (til it starts to bubble alot/the bubbles are bigger) - all the while mixing. You can't really go wrong at this point - the longer you boil the more caramelized your sugar.

Then pour in Corn Flakes straight into the pan! and stir!
Get it all mixed up and just pour it out onto a Silpat or parchment paper!
The new frosted flakes should cool in less than a minute. If you want to add more spices this is where you would do it.

After it has cooled - break it up and store it somewhere air tight! Oh yes.. and Eat!

Green Skittles change flavors from lime to green apple

The other week I had one of the best surprises ever! I walked into the kitchen at work and VOILA! Skittles! They now stock our kitchen with bulk Skittles! I was so excited and got a portion cup full right away. But today was a sad day.

Fun fact, I only eat 3 colors - Red, Green, and Yellow (and in that order). I tasted the rainbow and it was delicious. EXCEPT TODAYYY.

I was grabbing some Skittlesfrom the kitchen and Dale ate one of my green ones and told me they tasted tropical. Then I ate a green skittle and nearly spit it out! YUCK!! WHY SKITTLES WHY! It took me another try to figure out that they were actually green apple flavored - then I confirmed with google. SO RUDE.

If you're going to change a staple color, can you at least do a massive marketing campaign to let your fans know?? SO RUDE.

On similar note, I hate green apple flavoring because when I was little I had the stomach flu and some genius teacher decided to give me a huge green apple Now and Later . Then I threw it up and my puke was BRIGHT green and my mom got mad because I didn't make it to the bathroom and she made me clean it all up. So now I can't stand the smell or taste of candy green apple. Lovely huh??

Are you upset with the change too? Tell Skittles! Tweet them!
